The Qarlughids were a tribe of central Asian Turkic origin who had been vassals of the Delhi Sultinate, responsible for guarding north western India from the Mongol threat. In 1238 CE, Saif al-Din al-Hasan Qarlugh governor of Ghazni, seceded from the Sultanate and asserted the independence of the new Qarlughid state in Ghazni, Bamyan and Kurraman. He was succeeded by his son, Nasir al-Din Muhammad Qarlugh in 1249 CE, he however lost the kingdom to the Mongol Chagatai Khanate in 1266 CE.
