As an example of the timeless continuity of Indian history, the design used on this coin was already about 500 years old when it was employed. The Sassanian king and Zoroastrian fire altar it depicts were probably unrecognizable to the people of northwest India using these coins at the time. The abstract design did however have importance as identifying it as a form of currency unchanged for hundreds of years.
