These medals were issued to commemorate Levi Eshkol, the prime minister of Israel during the Six Day War. The Six Day War was a brief conflict in 1967 that firmly established Israel's otherwise untested military dominance in the region. Ironically, Levi Eshkol was considered not responsible for the successes of his country during the fighting.
